TRIBUTE: Mike Hammond

The Glasgow Clan are stunned and saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Mike Hammond.
Mike was a popular player with the Clan during his previous season with the club in 2016/17 and was due to be announced as re-joining the club for the 2023/24 campaign.
He first came to the UK to sign for the Clan in 2016/17 under Ryan Finnerty from Brampton Beast and became a popular player in his one campaign with the team.
Working well with Scott Pitt and Matt Beca, Mike made 48 appearances, scoring 26 times with 23 assists, for 49 points.
He went on to serve Manchester Storm and Nottingham Panthers as well as turning out for Coventry Blaze during the Elite Series.
Mike was also a Great Britain international, where he played a key role during the recent World Championship campaigns, including winning a gold medal in the Division 1A group earlier this season.
Clan head coach Jason Morgan paid tribute to Mike on hearing the sad news.
“I’m so saddened by the devastating news about Mike Hammond and I’m at a loss for words,” he said.
“My deepest condolences go out to the whole Hammond family as they go through this very difficult time.
“I was thrilled for the upcoming season to have the opportunity to work with Hammy, but this is such terrible news for everyone.”
Clan senior advisor Aaron Murphy added: “I want to extend my condolences to Mike’s family at this terrible time.
“We all know what a player he was and I enjoyed calling some of his big moments in commentary, particularly for GB and I was looking forward to working with him this season.
“He will be sadly missed by everyone in the British ice hockey community and my thoughts are with Mike’s family and friends.”
