Cole Ully’s first period hat-trick set Glasgow Clan on their way to a first win of the season as they blitzed Fife Flyers in an 8-5 victory at Fife Ice Arena.

After four competitive games, Clan still had nothing to show for their efforts, but finally remedied that as they turned in a masterful performance to secure two Challenge Cup points.

It was the best possible start as Ully struck after just eight seconds to give the visiting fans something to cheer about.

Two goals in the space of 54 seconds really set the tone as Steven Seigo fired one in from the centre to double the lead then Ully got his second to make it 3-0.

Fife started to bite back into the lead as the first period wore on, with Michael Cichy and Phelix Martineau both scoring to reduce the arrears to one.

But Ully restored the two-goal gap with 18 seconds to go of the opening stanza to put Clan back in a good position at the first break.

Gary Haden scored with his first goal of the season to put Glasgow 5-2 in front on 23:13, but Lucas Chiodo pulled another back for the Flyers five minutes later to show they weren’t going away quietly.

Cade Neilson added a sixth for Clan with a shorthanded goal early in the third period, before he got his second of the night with the team’s seventh a few minutes later and it look like Glasgow were out of sight.

However Fife netted twice to close the gap, courtesy of goals from Tyler Heidt and Drake Pilon as they looked to push in the final stages.

Deven Sideroff came up with an empty net goal in the final couple of minutes to make sure of the result, making it four points for him on the night, adding to three assists while Mitchell Heard also racked up four assists.
