Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan rounded off their Challenge Cup group stage games with a bitter loss to Dundee Stars at the Dundee Ice Arena.

The Clan got off to an offensive start with Jordan Cownie and Rob Lachowicz recording shots on target early on.

But it was the Stars who grabbed the first goal in the game through Spencer Naas as his shot trickled through Antti Karjalainen’s pads.

Dyson Stevenson had a huge chance to level the game shortly after as he was left wide open at the backdoor, but his shot missed the net.

Darien Craighead bagged the equalising goal before the end of the period as he pulled off a slick wraparound move and slotted the puck into the net.

There was chaos in the Clan crease when Ross Valentini rifled a shot on net and then tried at a rebound before feeding Naas at the far side, but the puck stayed out.

Mike Pelech came close to giving the Clan the lead as he made found room at the crease, but his attempted turn and shot couldn’t cross the line.

The Stars took control of play early in the second period as Anthony Rinaldi struck the bar with a shot from the left in the opening minute.

Then Jake Elmer later found the right side of the crossbar with his effort as he put the home side in front with a wrist shot on the powerplay.

James Phelan then doubled Dundee’s lead almost instantly with a slot drive and back hand finish before Jake Kielly replaced Karjalainen in the Clan net.

Kielly though didn’t get the best of welcomes to the game though as Chris McKay put the Stars 4-1 in front with a rebound goal shortly after the restart.

Kevin Carr continued to impress in the Dundee net as he managed to dive and prevent a backdoor rebound attempt from Gary Haden late on in the period.

The Stars went on to seal the two points with a fifth goal from Brent Beaudoin early in the third period as the home side stretched their lead further.

Phelan’s second of the game a few minutes later really made things more comfortable for the Stars and while Reid Petryk got Clan’s second, it changed nothing to the outcome of the game.
