NEWS: Coaching team extends into second year

April 6, 2025

The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the return of head coach Corey Neilson and assistant Mike Sirant for a second season.

Neilson joined the organisation last year after returning to the UK following spells coaching in Germany, Norway and Slovakia.

Sirant arrived as assistant after a year out of the game, but on the back of an incredible 27-year stretch as head coach of University of Manitoba Bisons from 1992 to 2023 over three different spells.

Thus far, they have enjoyed a positive first season, leading the club into the play-offs with some great performances and victories along the way.

Neilson is also assistant coach to Pete Russell in the GB Men’s national team, previously coached at Nottingham Panthers from 2008 and 2018 plus a brief return in 2022/23.

As a player and a coach, he’s won an Elite League title, seven Challenge Cups and five play-off crowns, completing a Grand Slam in 2013 plus an IIHF Continental Cup in 2017, the first British team to win a European competition.

Neilson took the Panthers to the knockout stages of the Champions Hockey League in 2018 after successfully negotiating the group stage.

And Neilson is keen to build on what he’s been able to achieve in his first season in Scotland.

“I’m delighted to be extending my time with the Clan and it’s been a great experience so far, something I’m looking forward to continuing into a second season,” he said.

“This year was all about getting things up and running and giving us a foundation to build from and I feel we’ve done that.

“Mike and I have been made to feel very welcome by everyone since I arrived last year, especially by the Purple Army, who are incredibly passionate and can really make a big difference.

“Plans are already underway for next season and while there’s still work to do in what’s left of this year, we’re determined to hit the ground running and go from there.”
