SIGNING: McLellan signs on for Neilson and Clan

June 12, 2024

The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the signing of forward Tyson McLellan as head coach Corey Neilson continues to build for the 2024-25 season.

McLellan moves to the Elite League after four years in Germany where he enjoyed spells in the DEL and DEL2.

And he reckons his style of play makes him a suitable component for Neilson’s team, having come up against him in DEL2.

“I’m delighted to sign for the Clan and I’ve heard a lot of positive things about the city, the fans as well as the organisation,” he said.

“When I spoke with Corey and having played against his teams in Germany, I knew it was a place I wanted to go.

“I think my playing style fits into what he wants to do and I was sold on the vision he has for the team in the upcoming season.

“I want to do what I can to help make it a successful season and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone when I get over there.”

McLellan comes to Glasgow from EV Landshut, where he has played in the last two seasons, helping them reach the play-offs on both occasions and scoring 86 points (23 goals and 63 assists) from 95 total appearances.

Prior to that, he spent the 2021-22 season with Freiburg after beginning his German adventure with top flight side Nürnberg Ice Tigers, in a season curtailed by the COVID pandemic.

Between 2015 and 2019, he played in the NCAA with the University of Denver before he made his move into pro hockey.

In fact, the sport is very much in his blood, with father Todd serving as an NHL Head Coach in various teams throughout his career, and has been involved at the top level for almost two decades.

Clan head coach Corey Neilson welcomes his new signing and has high hopes for him when he debuts in the Elite League later this year.

“Tyson is someone I’ve been targeting for a while,” he revealed. “He skates well, has a high hockey IQ in all three zones and has the skill to match.

“He’s going to be a great player for us and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

McLellan will wear the #9 jersey for the Clan in the new season.
