SIGNING: Berry added to boost offense

December 8, 2024

The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the signing of American forward Matt Berry, who will join the club with immediate effect.

The 32-year-old experienced offensive player moves to Scotland after spending last season in Slovakia with HK Liptovsky Milkulas.

And he revealed coming to the UK is something he’s wanted to experience as he anticipates life in Glasgow with his new team.

“I’m looking forward to joining the team,” he said. “I’m excited to come to Scotland and get started.  Coming to the EIHL is something I also wanted to do since I started playing in Europe.

“With this new opportunity, I’ve heard a lot of great things about Scotland, and I want to try to make an impact with the team and hopefully try to make it the best it can be.

“I don’t know too much about the city, but the information I have about the players and the fans is really good.

“Plus from what I seen, we have a nice arena where the fans really come out for the team so I can’t wait to get out there and play and really see what it’s about.”

Berry made the move to Europe last summer and played 53 times, scoring 17 goals and making 21 assists for 38 points in Slovakia.

Prior to that, he played in the ECHL with Cincinnati Cyclones in season 2022/23, where he picked up 64 points (19 + 45) in 74 appearances.

His experience in the East Coast league has seen him play over 300 games, scoring over 100 goals and picking up over 300 points from other spells with Utah Grizzlies, Florida Everblades and Toledo Walleye.

Berry also spent a season in the AHL back in 2018/19 with San Diego Gulls where he count Clan captain Deven Sideroff as one of his team-mates.

Glasgow head coach Corey Neilson: “Matt’s name came up and I liked the look of what he had to offer and he’s a guy who can penetrate on the interior.

“He goes to the net hard, scores and picks up points around the net and that was something that I’m really look forward to.

“Matt also knows some of our guys so he’ll come in and make some partnerships with people so there’s some familiarity there for him.

“It might take a little time for him to get up to speed, but we’re delighted to have him and I think he’ll be a valuable piece for us.”

Berry will wear the #14 jersey.
