Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan saw their hopes of making it four league wins in a row dashed as Cardiff Devils edged them in a 3-2 overtime thriller.

Clan looked to get on their opponents early, with Devils netminder Ben Bowns having to prevent an early opportunity.

He saw off a shot from Reid Petryk then had to perform a diving save to deny Jordan Cownie in the rebound to keep the door shut.

Bowns was also in top form as he blocked chances from Luke Lynch then Charlie Combis, making his competitive debut for the Clan after returning from injury, when he used the outside boards to create himself an opening.

It was Cardiff who found their way to goal just after the midway point in the first as Jamie Arneil tucked in a rebound after Antti Karjalainen saved Cody Donaghy’s shot initially.

Mark Richardson hit the post a minute later with a blast from the inside left, but up the other end, Mike Pelech’s effort was stopped by Bowns while Cownie had a chance go narrowly wide.

Cardiff increased their lead in the early stages of the second period when Justin Crandall took aim and fired on goal, but was blocked by Dyson Stevenson.

However Crandall was able to pick up the loose ball and execute the rebound to leave Karjalainen beaten.

Glasgow regrouped and a few minutes later, found themselves on the scoresheet as Robert Lachowicz took the puck around the net and played in Darien Craighead with a quick pass, who stabbed in a one-timer.

Clan were level in the latter end of the middle session when the same two players combined, this time seeing Lachowicz slamming in from outside the crease to level.

The home side went close in the third when a trademark Jake Bolton effort smacked off the post, only for Bowns to deny Pelech in the rebound.

Devils’ Cole Sanford hit the post with five minutes to go as both sides went all out for the winning goal in the final stages.

But it was Trevor Cox, who scored the decisive goal in overtime to clinch the second point for Cardiff with a low shot to beat the unlucky Karjalainen.
