Glasgow Clan head coach Zack Fitzgerald has confirmed that Matt Haywood will be the Clan’s new club captain heading into the 2019/20 season.
Joining Haywood, will be Canadian forward Scott Tanski, American forward Chad Rau and British forward Craig Peacock as the club’s alternative captains.
Haywood who is the Clan’s longest serving player and is entering his 10th season with the club, has also been rewarded with a testimonial which will take place on Tuesday 4th February at Braehead Arena.
Clan head coach Zack Fitzgerald was delighted with the outcome of a dressing room vote: “We have a room full of leaders. The four selected have a great group to represent and guide into battle. I’m delighted for everyone of them, it’s an honour to bestow.
“Scott Tanski brings a ton of energy to the room, gets guys fired up and plays exactly the same way. Craig Peacock has a wealth of experience in the EIHL. A great example for British talent, a proven player and a personality in the dressing room.
“Rau is a leader by example. He has played in the best leagues in the world, played with and against some of the best players in the world and will convey that experience to us.
“Mr Clan, Matt Haywood, bleeds purple. He is another great example of a successful British player, who has been part of this organisation since it’s inception.
“He leads by example, treats everyone with respect and has earned this captaincy. I couldn’t be more excited for Matt to take on this huge responsibility.
“The biggest sign of respect is when the players vote for the captain. That is exactly what we did and I know Matt will wear the ‘C’ with pride!”
