NEWS: Dixon in positive mood ahead of Stars double

November 25, 2022

Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan interim head coach Stephen Dixon says this weekend’s double header with Dundee Stars is a big one for his team.

Clan meet their Tayside rivals for the first time in league business, starting on Friday at Braehead Arena (face-off 7.30pm) before they do it all again in Dundee on Saturday.

And Dixon spoke of the positivity now surrounding his players after successfully completing a four-point weekend for the first time this season last week.

“It’s a big weekend and every one for us is big right now,” he said. “If you look at the standings, it’s definitely important for us for where we are and we have to be ready to go.

“Coming up against Dundee, we’re feeling like we’ve made some progress and we want to bring that into the weekend and carry that momentum for sure.

“There’s been a lot of positive energy coming off a weekend like that and it’s carried on into the new week.  The guys have been working hard and we’re looking forward to it.

“As a team, we definitely saw some progression and we hadn’t been getting the results so it was nice to see it come together like that and we came through with two huge wins.”

Dixon also talked up the impact of recent arrivals of Jake Bolton and Drew McLean, who both picked up points last weekend.

And with two more bodies to help out at the back end, it allowed Gabriel Chabot to return to the offensive lines, which paid dividends too.

Dixon added: “Jake and Drew have been great since they came in and it was good to see ‘Bolts’ got a couple of goals at the weekend.

“McLean reads the game so well and the two guys have done their bit for us at the back end.  It meant ‘Chaby’ playing as an offensive forward as well.

“I was pleased for Chaby as he’s sacrificed a lot of the team this season, playing a lot of games in defence so having him back up front and scoring was great for us.

“We saw a lot of good individual performances over the weekend and a good team weekend overall.”
