NEWS: Clan trio selected for GB Nordic challenge

October 26, 2016

NEXT HOME GAME: It’s our very own HALLOWEEN FRIGHT NIGHT next Sunday (face-off 6:00pm) when the Nottingham Panthers visit Braehead Arena. Tickets are available NOW via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.

A trio of Braehead Clan players have been picked to represent Great Britain in their forthcoming international matches against Norway.

Defenceman Zach Sullivan and forward Craig Peacock will be involved in the first of the two games, which takes place next Tuesday (1st November) at Nottingham’s National Ice Centre.

And Matt Haywood has been included in the squad to face the Norwegians when the contest goes to Ice Arena Wales in Cardiff 24 hours later on Wednesday.

All in 43 players have been selected over the two nights and head coach Pete Russell believes it’s a massive challenge as they face a team ranked 11th in the world.

“The first two games of the season for Team GB won’t come much bigger or tougher than this and it’s great to be utilising the international break,” Russell said.

“This is a great beginning and hopefully something that grows to help push our national team forward and our future players forward.

“It’s a huge challenge, but what fantastic experience it will be to play two games against Norway – a team that have come such a long way in the last 10-12 years.

“I also feel they’re a country that, in many ways, we can learn a lot from in our quest to push to higher levels.

“We have selected a mixed squad with returnees and players on the bubble and are going to use these games to give our country’s youngest prospects a chance to experience hockey at this level.

“We will be able to see everyone in a very competitive environment, which is great and we are all looking forward to this experience.”

Also included in the two squads are former Clan players Robert Farmer, now at Nottingham Panthers, Sam Zajac of Telford Tigers and MK Lightning’s Jordan Cownie.
