ON THIS DAY: August 31st

We’re counting down to the start of the 2021/22 campaign, but we’re also looking back on the games we’ve had in the past on this day in Clan history.
There’s a couple for you to look back on reflect and remember on the days, good and bad, that have helped make Glasgow Clan what they are today.
GAMES
2012: Braehead Clan 4 Tilburg Trappers 1 (Exhibition Game)
The first home game in charge for new Clan player-coach Jordan Krestanovich went as well as it could have as his team picked up an excellent 4-1 win over the Dutch side.
The coach led by example with the opening goal in the first minute on the powerplay after Josh Prudden took an early seat for hooking.
But three goals in the second period made sure of victory for the Clan as Ash Goldie introduced himself with his first goal, followed by one from Adam Walker and Krestanovich bookending the home side’s endeavours.
Ritchie van Hulten picked up the consolation goal in the final minutes for Tilburg, but it was a great start for Krestanovich after replacing Drew Bannister.
2014: Braehead Clan 5 Asiago 2 (Aladdin Cup – Clan win on penalty shots)
Clan retained the Aladdin Cup as they beat Asiago on penalty shots after Ryan Finnerty’s side’s 5-2 win wiped out the Italian team’s 3-1 success the night before.
Diego Iori opened the scoring before the first break, but Clan hit back through Scott Pitt and Matt Keith on the powerplay to take the lead.
A shorthanded goal from Lee Esders opened a two goal lead for the home side and while David Borelli notched Asiago’s second, Clan levelled the series courtesy of Pitt’s second and one from Stefan Meyer.
The contest went straight to penalty shots where Keith, Neil Trimm, Pitt and Derek Roehl were all successful, but Layne Ulmer’s miss gave the cup to Clan to end a busy weekend to start a new campaign.
2019: Glasgow Clan 3 Dundee Stars 6 (Challenge Cup)
Zack Fitzgerald’s reign as Clan head coach didn’t get off to the best of starts when Omar Pacha’s Dundee Stars side took a 6-3 win to begin their Challenge Cup campaign positively.
Anthony Beauregard, Drydn Dow and Brett Stovin all found the net for the visitors in the first period before Mathieu Roy struck on the powerplay to get one back for the Clan.
Kevin Dufour restored Dundee’s lead, which was cut again through Craig Peacock before the second interval.
Dundee went 5-2 ahead through Elgin Pearce and while Roy scored again as Clan had the extra man, Matt Marquardt sealed victory for the Tayside men.
