SIGNING: Stevenson back for third Clan campaign

July 3, 2023

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the re-signing of Canadian forward Dyson Stevenson for the 2023/24 season.

The 29-year-old has become a hugely popular figure among the Purple Army fan base and his return will no doubt delight the supporters as they look ahead to the new campaign.

And Stevenson, who was associate coach to Stephen Dixon last season, can’t wait to come back to Scotland to resume his playing career in Clan colours.

“I’m super excited to be returning to Glasgow,” he said. “I had very positive talks with coach Morgan after he took over and he showed great respect over the job myself, Stephen Dixon and Shawn Boutin did last season.

“It’s always nice to come back to a place that’s treated you so well and that’s why Glasgow was right up there.

“I wanted to hear what they had to say before I talked to anyone else because of the positive treatment I received in the last couple of years.

“With the new owners on board, everything’s looking really well and I’m excited to be on a team that could have a chance of winning a championship here.

“I’m looking forward to coming back and being a leader on this team, point the guys in the right direction and do what it takes to help our team win hockey games.”

Stevenson first signed for the club in the summer of 2021 from Allen Americans in the ECHL and his hard-hitting style became a popular one for the fans.

He returned for a second season last year and along with Dixon, stepped up to coaching roles last October that saw the team into the play-offs where they ran eventual winners Belfast Giants close in the quarter finals.

To date, Stevenson has made 90 appearances for the Clan, scoring 13 goals and making 27 assists for 40 points, along with 121 penalty minutes.

He also returns to become captain of the team, taking on the ‘C’ from Craig Peacock, who retired at the end of last season.

Clan head coach Jason Morgan says he’s looking forward to working with Stevenson and sees him as someone he can depend on.

“I’m delighted to welcome Dyson back to Glasgow next season and he’ll be a very important piece of our team’s success,” Morgan said.

“He plays the game hard and full of passion.  He has great character and will be a physical asset.

“I’m looking forward to working with him and the chance to build something special with him here in Glasgow.”

Stevenson will resume wearing the #26 jersey and joins Robert Lachowicz, Alex Forbes, Ryan Harrison, Jordan Cownie, Gary Haden, Philippe Sanche, Jordan Buesa, Charlie Combs and Jake Kielly on the roster for 2023/24.
