REPORT: Glasgow Clan 5 Cardiff Devils 8

April 7, 2024

The Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan suffered a bruising loss at home to the Cardiff Devils as the Purple Army’s season came to a premature end.

Joey Martin got the Devils on the front foot from the very beginning as he struck the cross bar just 30 seconds into the game before giving the visitors the lead at the two-minute mark.

Riley Brandt nearly turned the puck into his own net later in the period when Gary Haden zipped a pass through the Devils’ crease which deflected off his skate and narrowly missed the net.

Joey Arniel sent a rebound past Antti Karjalainen before the end of the period to double Cardiff’s lead before Cole Sanford followed up with a third goal shortly after.

Rob Lachowicz came close to putting the Clan on the boards before the first interval as he redirected Alex Forbes’ long-range effort which clipped the outside of the pipe.

Chad Pietroniro extended the Devils’ lead to four in the second period as he got on the end of a full-length pass from Evan Mosey and sent it high into the net.

Darien Craighead then opened the Clan’s account with a top shelf finish from the right circle but the celebrations didn’t last long as Sanford picked up his second of the night shortly after.

Charlie Combs sent a rebound over Tyler Wall at the buzzer to end the second period on a high note for Glasgow as they cut the deficit down to three heading into the final 20 minutes.

In the third period, Matt Barry rebounded Dyson Stevenson’s shot to put the Clan back to within striking distance of the Devils.

Evan Mosey quickly put Cardiff back in front by three before Jordan Cownie scored a fourth goal for the hosts with a crisp bar-down snipe from the hash marks.

Mosey then bagged his second goal of the game when he dispatched a penalty shot past Karjalainen before Combs also grabbed a second goal of the game for himself to make it 5-7.

Ryan Barrow wrapped up the game with a late empty net goal though as the Devils left the Braehead Arena with all the points and the curtain fell early on the Clan’s season.
