SIGNING: Stenton signs on for two years

June 13, 2022

Glasgow Clan sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West are delighted to announce the return of Scottish defenceman Liam Stenton on a two-year deal.

The 20-year-old has made his move to Glasgow permanent after the last two seasons as a two-way player with NIHL North side Solway Sharks.

And Stenton is pleased to be given a longer contract, giving him the boost in knowing the team are keen to help him develop.

“It’s good to be back and to sign a two-year deal,” he said. “It shows the Clan are right behind my development and gives me some security going forward.

“I feel like I progressed quite a bit in the second half of last season, where I was getting regular shifts so I’m hoping for more of the same.

“I enjoyed working with some of the more experienced guys and Cody Sol really took me under his wing. He taught me a few things, but I picked up a lot from the other guys which really helped.

“I’m sure everyone at Solway will be pleased for me so I want to thank them for everything they did for me.  I can’t thank them enough so it’s an exciting time and I can’t wait for the new season.”

Stenton became something of a mainstay in the Clan team in the second half of last season, helping the team to the sixth place finish and into the play-offs.

So far, he’s played 54 times for the Clan, scoring once and assisting in three, but impressing with some solid displays as he made a defensive berth his own.

Head coach Malcolm Cameron paid tribute to the young D-man and credited his development to the work ethic he showed.

“I didn’t know a lot about Liam when I first came to Glasgow last year and his school situation meant he was in and out of the team, but worked his way into a full time role,” he said.

“His dedication, listening and learning earned him the spot on the team and he has a lot of room for growth.

“I’m excited about the future with Liam and he’s already been working to make himself stronger and give him more physicality in dealing with the stronger forwards out there.

“It’s good to have him back on board on the deal he’s on and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”

Stenton will wear the #10 jersey for the Clan in 2022/23 and joins John Dunbar, Craig Peacock, Jordan Cownie and Stephen Dixon on the roster for next season.
