SIGNING: McParland kicks off busy day for Clan

June 26, 2022

Glasgow Clan sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian forward Steven McParland for the new season.

The 31-year-old comes to Glasgow with plenty of experience after spending the last three years in Italy and before that, with spells in the ECHL and AHL.

But this new adventure is something that really appealed to him as he looked to go somewhere different at this stage in his career.

“I’m actually very excited to be coming, especially now I can tell people where I’m going without having to explain exactly where,” he said.

“Malcolm was very persistent and sent me games to watch to let me see the fans and what it’s like so it seemed like a no-brainer for me and I’m glad to accept the offer.

“I’ve spent the last few years in Italy and I felt it was time for a change of pace and to see something else.  This was a bigger move that suited me.

“I’m the kind of player who doesn’t like to lose.  I like to win and I don’t handle defeat too well and I’m looking to forward to coming over.”

McParland spent last season with Fassa in the Alps Hockey League and two years with Asiago prior to that, where he was a two-time Italian Cup winner.

He also made 239 appearances in the ECHL, scoring a total of 184 points with clubs such as Carolina Stingrays, Elmira Jackals and Idaho Steelheads.

Head coach Malcolm Cameron revealed McParland was a big part of his recruitment plans and tried to get him before.

“I’ve liked Steven McParland for a long time and coached against him in the ECHL when he was with the Idaho Steelheads,” Cameron said.  “I found him to be a real formidable force.

“He has good hands, he’s tough and I saw him fight Dyson Stevenson in centre ice, which was quite the battle plus he can play in any of the three forward positions.

“Steven’s a proven scorer too, not just in North America, but in Europe and he’s someone I targeted early on in this process.

“I actually tried to get him to come to us in January, but I was unsuccessful, and I’m pleased he’s finally part of our team next season.”

McParland will wear the #19 jersey for the Clan in 2022/23 and joins John Dunbar, Craig Peacock, Jordan Cownie, Stephen Dixon, Liam Stenton, Gergely Tóth, Zach Driscoll, Gary Haden and Colton Waltz on the roster for next season.
