SIGNING: Clan welcome Shmyr

Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of forward Braylon Shmyr.
The 24-year-old will already be known to fans of the Premier Sports Elite League for his spell with Guildford Flames in 2019/20, where he made 15 appearances and picked up 12 points (6+6) before the season was curtailed because of Covid.
Now he’s back in the UK and ready to make an impression with the Clan as he’s added to Malcolm Cameron’s attacking options.
“I’m delighted for the opportunity to be coming back to the UK and when the Clan contacted me, I jumped at the chance to come back,” he said.
“My time with Guildford was cut short because of Covid so it’s a great chance to really show what I can do in a league I enjoyed playing in before.
“I’m super excited to sign in Glasgow and can’t wait to play in front of the fans.”
The Canadian, who originally hails from Vancouver, but lived in Calgary, has spent the first half of the season in the Swedish third tier, with Ostersunds IK, where, in 24 appearances, he has scored seven goals and 10 assists.
His experience also extends to over 100 appearances in the ECHL with Allen Americans, Norfolk Admirals, Utah Grizzlies and Jacksonville IceMen plus over 300 appearances in the WHL, primarily with Brandon Wheat Kings and Saskatoon Blades.
Clan coach Malcolm Cameron identified how Shmyr will fit into the team in the coming weeks and months.
“Braylon is going to add speed and quickness to our line-up and that was one of the things I was looking for when thinking of making an addition,” he said.
“He has good outside speed, he’s quick and tight, has good offensive instincts and he’s got a little experience in our league.
“Braylon is a good fit for what we’re looking for and I’m pleased to add him to the team for the remainder of the season.”
Shmyr will wear the #91 jersey for the remainder of the season.
