Glasgow’s Braehead Clan picked up their second point of the weekend – but couldn’t turn it into victory as Cardiff Devils edged the contest on penalty shots.

Clan went ahead with another excellent goal from Daniel Ahsberg, who dragged the puck from behind the goal and swept the puck in backhanded for the opener.

The home side could have gone two up when Scott Pitt’s reverse pass played in Matt Beca, whose snapshot needed Cardiff goalie Ben Bowns to divert it wide.

But the visitors were back on level terms when a rush on goal saw Joey Haddad claim the final touch to restore parity.

Alex Leavitt teed up Bari McKenzie for Clan’s go-ahead goal during the second period as the home side took the lead shorthanded.

And Ryan Finnerty’s men got a let-off when Scott Hotham’s shot looked to have crept past Clan netminder Michal Zajkowski, but the Swede did enough to stop it.

Referee Pavel Halas gave it initially but after consultation with his linesman and the goal judge, ruled it off to Cardiff’s frustration.

But Andrew Hotham got the leveller for Cardiff with two seconds to go, sending a low shot into the net to equalise.

Cardiff had to withstand a five-minute penalty after Patrick Bordeleau was given a match penalty for checking to the head on Zach Sullivan.

But they prevailed on penalty shots in the end, with Åhsberg’s effort denied by Devils goalie Ben Bowns to ensure victory for Andrew Lord’s side.
