BLOG: End of 2019/20 season & humbling support

March 18, 2020

Hi Purple Army!

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well is these unprecedented times.

Last Friday I joined the nine other EIHL clubs on a conference call to urgently discuss the developing Coronavirus situation. Every single club was focused on finishing the regular season first and foremost, and looked at every single scenario for doing this. However following the recommendations from the government, we took the very disappointing but 100% the correct decision to put the 2019/20 season to a premature end.

Taking into account the ever developing situation of closing international borders, it has become of paramount importance to ensure all the players can head home and be with their families during these very difficult times. In what has been a very difficult time for everyone associated with the Clan, I’d like to thank all the players and their families for their understanding and flexibility.

Like everyone else, the Coronavirus crisis is no doubt going to have a profound effect on our sport, our league and our club heading forward. I want to assure the fans we’re all working very hard behind the scenes to ensure our club is protected in this very difficult climate. We are going to have to make some very difficult and important decisions over the upcoming period, however as ever, everything will be done in the best interests of our Clan.

I have been very humbled by everyone that has called, messaged and emailed us offering their support over the past few days, whether that has been regarding not receiving season ticket refunds or even just offering help – it’s has been massively appreciated. I want to thank you all, it’s very heart warming and overwhelming to see.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our players for all their hard work during the 2019/20 season. I wish the players and their families all the best for the summer months and safe travels home.

Thank you to the Purple Army, our sponsors, Clan Crew, staff, players and everyone at Braehead Arena for all your commitment and support during the past eight months.

It’s going to be a very testing time for everyone at the Clan over the coming months and weeks, if you are trying to make contact during this period, please bear with us, we will get back to everyone as quickly as we can.

Thanks for your continued support.

Gareth
