NEWS: Esders’ “honour” at Retro Night celebration

March 28, 2024

Former Clan forward Lee Esders says his role in the team’s history was an ‘honour’ after returning to Braehead Arena to celebrate Retro Night last Friday.

Esders, who played for the club between 2013 and 2017, was back in the building to join the night and was interviewed on the ice after the first period.

And he reckons events like Retro Night are a great way to look back at all that’s gone before, as well as offer a nod to what’s to come.

“The Retro Night was a great experience as was returning to a place I called home and the familiar sights and sounds came flooding back,” he said.

“The arena and the locker room were as how I remember them and a touching reminder of the friendships I made and the battles on the ice.

“Hearing the chants were not just a celebration of the game, but the bond between the team and the Purple Army.

“It was like time stood still and even a little emotional for me.  Celebrating the team’s history was a moment of pride and reflection, looking back at the highs, the lows as well as the honours and achievements as well as the victories and defeats.

“As for the night itself, it was an honour to have been part of the journey and to have contributed to the legacy of the club.

“Retro Night is all about celebrating the past, a recognition of the present and a glimpse into the future and a reminder that the power of sport is to unite, inspire and create lasting memories.”
