NEWS: Dixon steps up as player-assistant coach

September 6, 2022

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce Stephen Dixon as player-assistant coach.

Dixon is one of the new faces in the Clan ranks this season and will work closely with head coach Malcolm Cameron as the team prepares to begin the competitive 2022-23 season.

And the former Cardiff Devils forward sees a big opportunity as he starts to look beyond the end of his playing career.

“It’s very exciting for me to take this role on and something I’m looking forward to a lot,” he said. “It’s a great learning experience for me working with Malcolm with all the years he has in the game.

“He’s had a great coaching career and it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn off him plus it gives me a chance to look at staying in the game in some capacity when the day finally comes when I’m done playing.

“Playing is my primary focus and help the team on the ice.  From the coaching side, it will involve a lot of learning, working with skill stuff and getting involved on the video side as well.

“Last week was all about getting ready and getting settled in, but the real work starts now and I’m pleased to have this opportunity.”

While Dixon’s role will allow him to transcend on and off the ice, head coach Malcolm Cameron outlined what the Canadian brings to the role.

“We’re excited to have Stephen Dixon as assistant coach this year and not only does he bring a wealth of experience, he’s a winner too,” he added.

“He’s played in various different places in different leagues at the highest level and that sort of knowledge will be beneficial to our players and in assisting myself with some fresh new ideas.

“I’ve known Stephen for a long time where I’ve always found him to be very professional and his passion for the game is contagious.”
