NEWS: Finnerty backs Sully for GB success

October 28, 2016

NEXT HOME GAME: It’s our very own HALLOWEEN FRIGHT NIGHT this Sunday (face-off 6:00pm) when the Nottingham Panthers visit Braehead Arena. Tickets are available NOW via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.

Braehead Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty has backed Zach Sullivan to be one of the next stars in the Great Britain team.

Sullivan was picked by GB coach Pete Russell for next week’s game with Norway on Tuesday along with Craig Peacock, while Matt Haywood will be used in Wednesday’s game in Cardiff.

And Finnerty also reckons there should have been room for one more member of his squad.

He said: “Peaks has been there before , Matt Haywood deserves to be there and I think Bari McKenzie deserves to be selected as well.

“Zach Sullivan, as a defenceman, should be on that team as well. I’ve always said he’s a player you have to watch live rather on videotape.

“I’ve always felt the coaching staff have to come north and see him to appreciate fully what he does. You don’t always see what he does on video.

“He’s got great potential and the team needs youth so Zach needs to go there to show what he can do and you have to watch consecutively to appreciate what he brings.

“Otherwise it’s an easy decision to dismiss him and I back that statement. He’s taken his game to another level and I think, given a chance, he could be one of the next best British defencemen.”
