Braehead Clan captain Matt Keith says it was important to go out with a win against the Nottingham Panthers, before their break last week – now he wants more points on the board.

The men in purple return to action in the first game of a four-week road trip when they head to Manchester Storm on Saturday.

Now he’s called upon his team-mates to start stringing together some victories and lift them away from the bottom end of the table.

“It was important to go out with a win like that, whether we had the following week off or not, but we have to start winning games and get it together to help us in the standings,” Keith said.

“Going into the break was nice and it’s given us a chance to regroup a little bit. We’ve done some fitness testing and some practice and the mood is positive.

“Now we go on the road for a month and that’s the sort of atmosphere you want going into the next few weeks.

“I haven’t looked at the standings to be honest. All I know is we’re four and seven and it’s not good enough by our standards.

“We didn’t have a good start, but we have been playing better and we need to start pulling some wins together to get us back into contention.”

Storm are next for Braehead and are a team that have picked up some big points at home to some of the so-called big clubs in the Elite League.

And Keith revealed when the players returned to training on Tuesday, coach Ryan Finnerty was already heavily into preparations for Omar Pacha’s men.

He added: “Manchester’s a tough building to go into with good fan support and a smaller rink. If they get a good start, it can be even harder.

“You could tell early on Tuesday that Finner was preparing for Manchester and focussing on what we need to do.

“We’ve had success down there, but it’s definitely a difficult place. If we can go there, play our game and control what we can control, then we should be okay.”
