Braehead Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty admits he’s concerned at how porous his defence were over the weekend – and he plans to make his players work to resolve it.

The Clan conceded eleven goals over the two games at Fife Flyers and Edinburgh Capitals as another weekend ended with one win and one loss.

Finnerty said he is ready to work on the issues ahead of Saturday’s homecoming game against Dundee Stars.

“There were plenty of goals this weekend, but it’s not exactly the way we’re structured to play,” he said. “Offensively, we’re scoring plenty, but letting them in is a major concern.

“We had an opportunity to take over, but we went away from what we do best. You had five guys getting spread out and that’s just not the way we want to play.

“It’s very frustrating and the group are as well. We had an opportunity to start making some headway and they’re going to feel it in practice this week.

“To win one and lose one for this organisation isn’t good enough.”

Finnerty also bemoaned the fact an opportunity to climb the table was squandered, with Clan just inside the top eight places, having picked up 14 points in 18 games.

He added: “We had an opportunity to gain some valuable points and go up the ladder, but I thought we blew it.

“Our execution wasn’t good and our powerplay had an opportunity to bail us out. We haven’t had many chances over the last few weeks and when we finally did, we did nothing with it.

“That’s got to change. You can’t win if you’re going to continuously get beat on the special teams and that’s a major issue for us. But defensively, we have some areas to work on.”
