GAME RECAP
Glasgow Clan finally picked up a winning result against Coventry Blaze, as they managed to edge past them in a 5-4 thriller at Braehead Arena.
Matt Berry put the Clan on the front foot early as he got on the end of a long-range pass and caught the Blaze defence by surprise with a quick charge up the wing, but his shot trailed just wide of the net.
The Clan then had to endure three back-to-back penalties with a too many men, holding and slashing penalty being called before the ten-minute mark.
The hosts did well to hold down their end while a man down and survived the penalty kill before captain, Deven Sideroff tipped McKay’s shot to put his side in front.
A powerplay led to Mitchell Heard wasting no time to double Glasgow’s lead after Sideroff played an inch-perfect pass to him at the backdoor to tap home.
Bow was at the centre of attention once again in the second period when he parried an initial shot wide of hit net and recovered well to get his shoulder to a quick rebound attempt and keep it out.
Liam Finlay then swept a third goal into the Blaze net as he collected a rebound on the left wing and slammed it into the gaping net.
Mat Robson also impressed in net for Coventry as he stretched out to cut out a backdoor first time shot from McLellan with his skate blade.
Sideroff did then find a way past Robson as he bagged his second of the game with a satisfying finish through the pads of the Coventry netminder to put the Clan four goals ahead.
Coventry then kickstarted their attempt at a comeback after a fortunate bounce from former-Blaze player, Alex Forbes put the visitors on the boards.
Rob Lachowicz responded shortly after though as he got the credit on a scramble play out in front as the puck snuck in through a cover of sticks and bodies.
The Blaze did manage to apply pressure late in the game though as Archie Hazeldine and Alessio Luciani scored two goals in quick succession to cut the deficit down to two.
After pulling their netminder, Coventry then scored a fourth through Jackson Cressey to force a tense finish but the Clan managed to hold on for the two points as they edge closer to playoff qualification.
