GAME RECAP

Matt Berry’s overtime winner for his second goal in two games made the difference as Glasgow Clan edged Dundee Stars in a 4-3 thriller at Dundee Ice Arena.

It was a dramatic ending to a night that also saw Mitchell Heard pick up his first hat-trick for the club as Corey Neilson’s men made it five successes on the spin.

Both teams came into the game on the back of recent runs of four wins in their last five and respective success in their Friday fixtures.

The Stars reminded Glasgow almost straight away just how difficult an assignment it would be as they outshot their visitors in the opening 20 minutes.

The culmination of their efforts came in the 16th minute when Spencer Naas’ shot on net was initially dealt with by Clan goalie Landon Bow.

But Kyle Pouncy was quick to get on the rebound and found the net to put Dundee a goal up, a lead they held going into the second period.

Glasgow needed a reaction and it took them only 35 seconds to level the game as Deven Sideroff set up Mitchell Heard, who finished from the slot.

Dundee restored their lead when former Clan D-man Craig Moore cannoned in a shot from just inside the blue line that evaded everyone on its way into the net.

But the Stars’ fans joy was short-lived as Glasgow retaliated with another equaliser just over a minute later, again from Heard with his second of the net as his shot beat Richard Sabol.

Despite the disparity in shots on goal after the first 40 minutes, Glasgow were still in the game so it would need something to really get them over the line.

Heard completed his hat-trick just after the halfway point in the third as he finished from just outside the crease to put Clan in front for the first time in the game.

But a powerplay goal by Kameron Kielly at the angle tied things up once more with just over four minutes left to play on the clock.

The game slipped into overtime, where Berry came up with the big moment after being set up by Darien Kielb, delighting the travelling Purple Army celebrating another big victory to close out a four-point weekend.
