SIGNED: Leavitt returns to Glasgow

July 6, 2016

The intu Braehead Clan are delighted to announce Alex Leavitt as the club’s 12th signing of the summer.

The Edmonton native arrived in Glasgow last year from Ravensburg Towerstars in Germany and established himself in the Clan ranks.

Head coach Ryan Finnerty admits the 32-year-old was a player he didn’t fully appreciate until later on, but is pleased to have him back for a second season.

“Levy’s a guy that grew on me last year,” Finnerty said. “When we broke down some analytical video over the summer, we quickly realised whatever line he was on, that was the one producing.

“He’s one of those guys you have to see to appreciate and a player everyone wants to play with. In the exit meetings, the other guys spoke of how much they wanted to play with him.

“Alex has great vision and his hockey IQ is high and has produced in every year he’s ever played and is a guy we value.

“I like him not only as a player, but as a person, but I enjoy coaching him and I like what he brings to the dressing room. With that in mind, I’m glad we’ve brought him back.”

Leavitt was Braehead’s top point scorer and fourth overall in the Elite League last season, scoring 24 goals and assisting in 58 in 64 appearances.

His contribution helped the Clan win the Gardiner Conference and while he wants to bring in the right players to work with him, Finnerty is expecting more from Leavitt.

The coach added: “Alex is going to be a big player for us so we’re going to expect more from him. He’ll be an offensive guy and will create opportunities for others.

“We also want to put guys around him that compliment him. He’s the kind of winger that can give guys some career years, with a good centreman, he can be dangerous.”

Leavitt will continue to wear the #12 jersey for the 2016/17 season and joins Gary Russell, Scott Aarssen, Cody Carlson, Zach Sullivan, Callum Boyd, Matt Haywood, Matt Keith, Bari McKenzie, Craig Peacock, Scott Pitt and Daniel Åhsberg on the roster.
