NEWS: Peacock set for Giant return
NEXT HOME GAME: The Braehead Clan face the Belfast Giants in an exciting start to the season on Sunday 28th August (6:00pm face-off). Tickets are available NOW via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.
intu Braehead Clan forward Craig Peacock says he has no idea how the Belfast Giants fans will treat him when he returns there tonight.
The Englishman, who joined the Clan from Derrick Walser’s men this summer, is due to return to Northern Ireland for the first time since coming to Scotland.
And he admits it’s going to be strange to be an opposition player in a place he describes as his ‘old stomping ground.’
“It’s definitely going to be strange going back there after such a long time at the club, so being on the other side of the benches will be unusual,” Peacock said.
“I’m looking forward to it though and I’m enjoying being at Braehead just now and loving being part of the Clan, so it’ll be interesting returning to my old stomping ground.
“I’ve got a lot of friendships from my time there of course and the chatter has been lots of general hockey player talk from my old team-mates.
“They’re asking how I’m doing, how I’m getting on and how the team’s looking, so you don’t give too much away. While they’re friends, it’ll be interesting to play against them, that’s for sure.
“As for the fans, I’ve no idea what to expect when I go back there on Saturday. If I get cheered, great, if I get booed, even better. I’m not too worried about that.
“I’m just focussed on being part of the Clan and whatever happens happens. I’m just looking to get the win for Braehead.”
The GB international, who spent seven seasons at the Giants prior to his move, says he’s settled in nicely since joining Braehead.
And he says implementing the systems the team have worked in practice will be more important than getting wins in the next two nights – although Peacock wants those as well.
He added: “I’m really enjoying it so far and we’ve had a great couple of weeks of practice so far. Plus the guys are all getting along and that bodes well for the season ahead.
“We’ll be looking to get a good road win, implement a couple of the systems and while the result isn’t massively important, executing what we’ve learned will be one of the key things.
“That said, of course I want to win over Belfast. It’ll be a tough test against them in a building that’s never easy to go to and knowing Derrick as I do, they won’t be easy to play against.”
