WEEKLY RECAP: STATEMENT WIN AT BRAEHEAD AS CLAN BATTLE THROUGH INJURY-HIT WEEK
The Glasgow Clan endured another demanding week on and off the ice, delivering one of their strongest performances of the season at Braehead Arena before battling through adversity on the road against Cardiff.
FRIDAY 9 JANUARY – SHEFFIELD STEELERS (H) | 5–3 WIN
The Sheffield Steelers arrived at Braehead Arena for the first of three Scottish fixtures over the weekend, but it was the Clan who made the statement.
Following a difficult run of form, the Clan produced a performance full of intensity, grit, and attacking intent, securing a 5–3 victory in what was arguably one of their best displays of the season to date.
Goals from Joe Hazeldine, Steven Seigo, Rylan Schwartz, and a two-goal night from Tristan Langan powered the Clan to a deserved win in a game that kept the home crowd engaged from start to finish.
Between the pipes, Lucas Brine delivered an outstanding performance, facing sustained pressure and setting the tone with key saves at crucial moments.
SUNDAY 11 JANUARY – CARDIFF DEVILS (A)
The Clan travelled to the Vindico Arena facing further challenges, with injuries continuing to impact the lineup as three additional players were ruled out following Friday’s game.
Despite the disruption, the Clan showed resilience and determination, throwing everything at the Devils in search of a result. However, they were repeatedly denied by an outstanding performance from Devils goaltender Christian Stoever, as the hosts managed to keep the Clan at bay.
Once again, Brine was a standout, keeping the Clan in the contest with a composed and confident display despite facing heavy pressure.
GOALTENDING HIGHLIGHT
Across the two fixtures, Lucas Brine faced a total of 70 shots on goal, conceding just four goals over the weekend — a remarkable effort that underlined his importance during an injury-hit period for the roster.
ROSTER UPDATE
Injuries have continued to affect the Clan roster, with seven players scratched from Sunday’s game sheet:
Brett Neumann, Cade Neilson, Sami Aittokallio, Chris McKay, Robert Lachowicz, Brayden Burke, and Darien Kielb.
At this time, the Club is unable to provide individual injury updates as medical consultations are ongoing. It can be confirmed that Cade Neilson is currently being assessed on a week-to-week basis. Brett Neumann is expected to return this weekend, with a further update to be provided later in the week.
After ten weeks sidelined, defenceman Chris McKay is set to make his return to the ice and is expected to rejoin the lineup on Friday 16th January.
Last week, the Club confirmed that goaltender Sami Aittokallio was placed on Injured Reserve, and during Friday’s game against Sheffield, the Clan announced the signing of Canadian netminder Liam Soulière as injury cover.
COMING UP
The Clan now face a weekend on the road, with a break from home fixtures as they travel south:
- Friday 16 January – Manchester (A)
- Sunday 18 January – Coventry (A)
Across previous meetings this season, the Clan have split results with Manchester, while Coventry currently hold a 2–1 advantage in the series.
With the potential return of up to three injured players, the upcoming weekend presents an opportunity for the Clan to build momentum and continue pushing forward despite a challenging stretch.
