THE WEEK AHEAD: Rivalry week

September 18, 2023

There’s no doubt Saturday’s win in Belfast has made everyone connected at Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan excited, but when you’ve got two rivalry games coming, it’s made all the better.

The pre-season is over and now every game counts as the Challenge Cup gets underway in earnest and what a weekend lies ahead for the Clan, with Fife Flyers the next opponents.

Before we tell you more about what’s to come this week – and it is a massive week ahead – let’s bring you up to date with what you may have missed over the last few days:

THURSDAY

Highland Ice Games & Jersey Launch (Braehead Arena, 7:00pm)

Before two big clashes this weekend, there’s one to come as Clan Stevenson takes on Clan Haden in the Highland Ice Games.

A night of fun and entertainment is in prospect as the players are introduced to the fans in a more informal setting.

Plus, you’ll get the first look at the brand new jerseys the team will wear in the 2023/24 season.  What’s not to love?  Get your tickets and look forward to a great night ahead.

SATURDAY

Glasgow Clan vs Fife Flyers (Challenge Cup, face off 7:00pm)

It’s been a summer of change for both teams over the summer and you can say Fife have seen an equally seismic adjustment with long-serving coach Todd Dutiaume leaving the club after over two decades.

Enter Tom Coolen to come in and revitalise the Flyers and while reaching the Challenge Cup Final last year was a huge achievement, there was still no place in the play-offs for them.

For both sets of fans, it’s the one fixture they both enjoy so should be quite the occasion when these two lock horns again.

SUNDAY

Fife Flyers vs Glasgow Clan (Challenge Cup, face off 5:15pm)

After Saturday night’s meeting, it’s back to Kirkcaldy for the reverse fixture with more Challenge Cup points up for grabs.

While Fife coach Coolen would have got his first taste of the Braehead Arena atmosphere, it’s time for Clan’s Jason Morgan and Jeff Battah to experience the same at the ‘Auld Barn.’

These two teams don’t do timid and quiet affairs and be rest assured, it will be a noisy and competitive one, with bragging rights up for grabs.
