THE WEEK AHEAD: A battle against the elements

April 4, 2022

The end of the season is but a couple of weeks away and for Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, things should become much clearer by this time next week.

Form has taken a dip certainly, but the objective hasn’t changed and that is to clinch a top eight berth and seal a place in the play-offs.

There’s a night of celebration first before Malcolm Cameron locks horns with Ryan Finnerty and Danny Stewart this weekend in another pivotal 48 hours for the club later in the week.

But let’s get you up to speed with what you may have missed:

WEDNESDAY: THE GCAs (Doors open 7pm, starts 7.30pm)

The great and the great of Glasgow Clan will descend on The Normandy Hotel in Renfrew to mark the end of the season with the Glasgow Clan Awards night.

It’s the first one we can all attend since 2019 and it will be a good night as Gerry McLaughlin and Kevin McCoskrie host the festivities with plenty of laughs and fun to come.

Tickets are no longer available, but for those who are going, it’s a great opportunity to don your finest clobber, let your hair down and commemorate a season where Clan finally returned to the ice after Covid.

SATURDAY: GLASGOW CLAN vs MANCHESTER STORM (7pm)

If we have our maths right (and let’s fling a disclaimer in there that it might not be), a win for Clan on Saturday against Manchester Storm could see them finally book the ticket for the play-offs.

Ryan Finnerty’s side play Sheffield Steelers later this week and if they don’t pick up any points in that one, it could come down Saturday’s trip to Glasgow to keep their hopes alive.

A victory for Malcolm Cameron’s men in regulation time will do, but only if Steelers do what they need to do first.

So it goes without saying it’s another huge game and could prove to be decisive. You need to be there and as ever, tickets for the game are available on the Clan website and in case you can’t make it (although we’d rather you did), our stream is available too, priced at £15 and can be purchased from Clan TV.

SUNDAY: COVENTRY BLAZE vs GLASGOW CLAN (5.30pm)

It’s off to the Skydome to finish against another team also looking for as high a placing as they can for the play-offs.

By the time this game comes around, Danny Stewart’s men might also have stamped their passport to the play-offs so the matter of league placing becomes the issue.

The last visit here was a night to forget as Clan were beaten 8-1, but Blaze have to negotiate games with Guildford and Nottingham first before Cameron’s lads roll in.

If you’re looking to make the journey to Coventry for the game, you can purchase your tickets on Coventry Blaze’s website, or alternatively, catch the game on the live stream on Blaze TV.
