SIGNING: Vinnell arrives to fill another defensive slot

July 28, 2023

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian defenceman Zach Vinnell for the 2023/24 season.

The 25-year-old makes his way to Europe for the first time and signs from ECHL side Indy Fuel, where he spent the final few months of last season.

And he admits the move to Scotland was one he felt he couldn’t turn down as he looked for the right place to begin his overseas adventure.

“It feels great to have signed for the Clan and it’s an exciting time to start my European career,” he said. “It was something I always wanted to do.

“When the opportunity presented itself, it was tough to pass up and I can’t wait to play in front of such passionate fans.

“The move was definitely the right one to make and the chance to work with two coaches who are well respected and have done well in their careers.

“The new owners are looking to enhance the fan experience and provide what the team needs for success so that was a huge draw for me.”

Vinnell joined Fuel in March after concluding a three and a half year spell in the NCAA where he served Merrimack College Warriors from 2019 to 2022 then Bowling Green University Falcons in the first part of last season.

In the step up to the ECHL, he scored one goal and 10 assists (11 points) in 18 appearances for the Fuel, adding to the 53 points (nine goals and 44 assists) in 120 NCAA games.

Clan head coach Jason Morgan is pleased to add another exciting talent to his pool of players and believes Vinnell will slot right in.

“I want to extend a warm welcome to Vinny, who is a motivated pro and works hard plus moves well around the ice,” he said.

“He also moves the puck well and defends well with his stick.  I feel he’ll complement our defensive core really well.

“I’m looking forward to working with him and taking his game to the next level.”

Vinnell will wear the #47 jersey and joins Robert Lachowicz, Alex Forbes, Ryan Harrison, Jordan Cownie, Gary Haden, Philippe Sanche, Jordan Buesa, Charlie Combs, Jake Kielly, Dyson Stevenson, Antti Karjalainen, Nate Kallen, Bryce Reddick, Cody Sol and Luke Lynch on the 2023/24 roster.
