SIGNING: McLean makes his debut vs Coventry

November 19, 2022

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of American defenceman Andrew McLean.

The 27-year-old joins the team to provide a much needed defensive option as the season moves into a crucial stage of the campaign.

And McLean couldn’t contain his delight at sealing his move, which reunites him with a couple of familiar faces.

“I am beyond excited to join the Clan.  Everything I’ve heard about the fans and the league has been really positive and I’m so thrilled to be part of it.

“I can’t wait to get over, help the guys out and hopefully get things going in the right direction.  I also want to be able to help get some wins too.

“I’m a defenceman who is quite fast, I can hit and can be physical, but all round, I’m a team guy who brings energy, skating and a little bit of skill.

“I know Mathieu Roy and Mitch Jones having played with them before so it’ll be good to be alongside those guys and I’m ready to play some hockey with the Clan.”

McLean arrives from Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL where he made 54 appearances, scoring twice and making 11 assists from his time there.

He previously played with Knoxsville Ice Bears in the SPHL and prior to that, turned out for University of Winsconsin-Stevens Point in the NCAA.

Clan’s interim head coach Stephen Dixon welcomed the newest arrival to the team and outlined his attributes.

“We’re delighted to have Andrew join the team and there are players here who are already familiar with him and what he can do,” he said.

“He’s a good skater and a solid defenceman so he’s going to bring some help to our defensive squad in an area we’ve been short much of the year.

“We’re excited to have him here and we think he’ll bring a lot to our defence going forward as we move on in the season.”

McLean will play #56 for the Clan.
