SIGNING: McKay seals Clan move from Dundee
The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the signing of defenceman Chris McKay ahead of the new 2024/25 season.
The 28-year-old Edmonton native is set to swap Scottish teams, moving from Dundee Stars where he helped them reach the play-offs last year.
And McKay revealed that while he was keen on a return to Scotland, he was swayed by the vision of the head coach Corey Neilson.
“I’m excited to be joining the Clan in this upcoming season,” he said. “I loved my time in Scotland last year and made it known I was keen to return.
“After speaking with Corey and learning more about what he wants to accomplish, it was a no-brainer for me to sign up.
“I can’t wait to get going and hopefully be part of the success the coach wants to bring to Glasgow.”
McKay made 56 appearances for Dundee, scoring six goals in all competitions – including three against the Clan – and added seven assists.
Prior to that, he made over 100 appearances in the ECHL with Toledo Walleye, Wichita Thunder and Florida Everblades, with whom he won a 2022 Kelly Cup title.
He also spent four years in the NCAA with Rochester Institute of Tech between 2016 and 2020, where he earned the alternate captain letter in his final season.
Clan head coach Corey Neilson outlined what the former Dundee man will bring to his team in the new campaign.
“Chris is an incredibly competitive guy who plays with a reckless edge to his game,” he said.
“He’s big, solid and keeps it simple. He also has a desire to learn, work and improve which I love to have in a player.
“With the addition of Chris, he adds valuable league experience which is vital and I’m thrilled to have him on board.”
McKay will wear the #55 jersey in the new season.
