SIGNING: McKay pens extension for second season

April 28, 2025

The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the return of defenceman Chris McKay, who has agreed to extend his deal into 2025/26.

The 29-year-old will come back to the Elite League for a third season, after spending a year with the Dundee Stars prior to joining the Clan last summer.

And the six-foot-five blue-liner couldn’t have been happier to commit to another campaign in Glasgow after a positive 2024/25.

“Last season was great, and my girlfriend and I enjoyed every minute of it so it was a very easy decision to sign back,” he said.

“We had a really good group of guys last season, both on and off the ice, so I am excited to continue to build on that. I want to be part of the winning culture that Corey is working hard to implement.

“The fans were great this past year. Their passion is always felt (both when we’re winning and losing) so building a winning culture and having them behind us is second to none.

“I’m very excited and grateful to be extending my contract into the 25/26 season, and seeing everyone again later this year.”

McKay played 68 times for the Clan last year – playing in all but one game in all competitions – scoring twice and assisting on 20.

He impressed throughout the campaign and not only brought a degree of composure on the back end, he was a popular figure off the ice too with his team-mates and fans.

Prior to arriving in the UK with Dundee, McKay also iced in the ECHL with Florida Everblades and Wichita Thunder.

Head coach Corey Neilson welcomed back one of the key components of his team, and spoke of the attributes McKay showed in purple.

“Chris McKay brought a big presence to the defence, linked up well with his line-mates, and really progressed as the season went on,” Neilson said.

“He works hard and plays with a reckless edge.  Plus he’s solid, has shown great balance between making a play and keeping things simple, as well as being someone who always loves to learn.

“Chris made a big contribution to the team last season, so to extend his contract was a good move for us and I’m pleased he’s agreed to stay.”

McKay will continue to wear the #55 jersey in 2025/26.
