SIGNING: Kallen arrives to shore up Clan defence

July 7, 2023

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of American defenceman Nate Kallen for the 2023/24 season.

The 25-year-old from San Diego is the first blueliner announced for the team as focus starts to turn on the back end of the team.

Kallen is already counting the days until he can move to Scotland to get the new Elite League campaign underway.

“I’m super excited to be part of the Clan and looking forward to getting things started there in the next couple of months,” he said.

“Everything I’ve heard so far about the organisation, the city and the group coming in has been very positive which adds to the excitement.

“I’m pleased to sign for the team and we’re gearing towards what will hopefully be a championship year ahead.”

Kallen arrives in the UK after a brief spell at the end of last season with Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava, where he made 16 appearances and made five assists in his first taste of hockey outside North America.

Prior to that, the six-foot right hander played in the ECHL in the last two seasons with Maine Mariners, where he made a total of 86 appearances, scoring 11 goals and weighing in with 29 assists for 40 points.

Clan head coach Jason Morgan talked up Kallen’s numbers and also highlighted the other qualities he’ll bring to the team.

“Nate is a right shot defenceman and a great skater which will make him an offensive threat going on the attack and inside the offensive blue line,” he said.

“He’s entering his fourth pro season and has registered 40 points in his last two seasons with the Maine Mariners.

“Nate has great leadership qualities and will be an asset on one of our powerplay units. I’m excited to have him join us in the new season.”

Kallen will wear the #58 jersey and joins Robert Lachowicz, Alex Forbes, Ryan Harrison, Jordan Cownie, Gary Haden, Philippe Sanche, Jordan Buesa, Charlie Combs, Jake Kielly, Dyson Stevenson and Antti Karjalainen on the roster for 2023/24.
