SIGNING: Clan welcome former DEL defenceman
The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of former DEL defenceman Alex Roach.
Having agreed terms late last week, Roach joins the club from DEL2 side EHC Freiburg where he began the 2023/24 campaign.
And he spoke of the new opportunity and the excitement he has in not only being at the Clan, but also being in Scotland.
He said: “I’m very excited to join the Glasgow Clan after hearing lots of positive things from former players of the club.
“I’ve always wanted to live in the UK and I’m looking forward to the chance to integrate myself into the Scottish culture and I can’t wait to meet the fans at the arena.”
Roach, who will wear the #3 jersey, joined Freiburg during the summer after two seasons with Kölner Haie in the DEL. He has also previously played for the Eisbaren Berlin and Grizzlys Wolfsburg, who also compete in the German top flight.
The six-foot-five left handed blueliner has played over 125 games in the DEL and over 100 in DEL2, not to mention a further 150 plus appearances in the ECHL, so comes to Clan with plenty of pedigree.
Some of his other former clubs include Löwen Frankfurt, Deggendorfer, Ontario Reign, Manchester Monarchs and Atlanta Gladiators.
Clan coach Jason Morgan outlined the attributes Roach brings to the team as he beefs up his defensive lines.
He added: “Alex brings us character, size and a solid defensive game to our backend. He will add more leadership and experience in shutting down other teams’ top players, while boosting our penalty kill.
“He comes here with good experience with over 125 games in the DEL and I know he’s excited for his new challenge in Scotland.
“I’m delighted to welcome Alex to the Clan hockey family.”
