SIGNING: Clan get their teeth into Combs

June 27, 2023

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of American forward Charlie Combs for the 2023/24 season.

The 26-year-old is familiar to fans of the Elite League having spent the 2021-22 season with Scottish rivals Dundee Stars.

And Combs is looking forward to reacquainting himself with the league when it starts up again in September.

“I’m really excited to coming back to Scotland and getting things going,” he said.

“Playing in Glasgow two years ago was always fun where the fans were always great and I look forward to being on the right side of them this year.

“I’m also looking forward to working with the coach and I’d heard some great things about him so it made it an easy decision in that regard.

“Plus I get to play with my buddy, Philippe Sanche, “the wee man” as I call him and we’ve kept in touch since we played together in Dundee.

“We wanted to play alongside each other so I can’t wait to do that again when we get together later in the year.  It’s going to be a great year.”

Combs returns to the UK after a season in Denmark’s Metal Ligaen with SønderjsykE, with whom he played 51 times, scoring 23 goals and 23 assists for 46 points.

In his previous campaign with the Stars, he played 65 games, finding the net 33 times and adding 45 assists for 78 points in a season where Dundee reached the play-off finals weekend.

Combs’ arrival also means a reunion with former Stars team-mate Sanche, who was announced as joining the club last week.

Clan head coach Jason Morgan spoke of Combs’ good qualities as he introduced him to his squad for the upcoming season.

“I’m pleased to welcome Charlie to Glasgow and he proved himself in this league two years ago with the Dundee Stars,” he said.

“He followed up a great season in the UK with another good one in Denmark last year and will be well liked in the locker room.

“Charlie’s a good skater with an excellent shot, which is his best asset, and we are happy to have him as part of the Clan hockey family.”

Combs will wear the #9 jersey in the new season and joins Robert Lachowicz, Alex Forbes, Ryan Harrison, Jordan Cownie, Gary Haden, Philippe Sanche and Jordan Buesa on the roster for 2023/24.
