SIGNING: Barry signs on for Clan

October 6, 2023

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, are delighted to announce the signing of American forward Matt Barry for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

The 26-year-old joins the club after a season in Germany with Rostock Piranhas, and previous experience in the NCAA.

And now he’s set his sights on making an impact in Glasgow after hearing plenty of favourable things about life in Scotland.

“I wanted to sign because I’d heard it’s a great city with a great fan base, who pack the arena,’ he said.

“I’ve also been told all about how coach Morgan brings a certain environment to the rink where you work hard and have fun.

“The team seems to all get along and the chemistry is strong, which was another huge factor.

“After talking to coach Morgan, what he wants from me fits how I want to play and along with the playing style, it’s a great league and a good spot for me in my career, and I look forward to the challenge.”

Barry played 42 games in Germany last season, scoring 23 times, adding 48 assists, in an impressive campaign for him on a personal level.

He previously spent three years at Miami University of Ohio Redhawks in the NCAA, where he accumulated 62 points (17 goals and 49 assists) in 91 games.

Clan head coach Jason Morgan welcomed his latest arrival and outlined what he’ll bring to the team this season.

“Firstly, I want to welcome Matt to the Clan hockey family,” he said. “His addition comes at a perfect time, as we have some key guys missing.

“Matt’s name came up from one of the agents I’ve frequently dealt with, and when I dug into video clips on him and received some very good references, I knew he would be a good fit.

“Matt is a highly skilled natural play-making centre, with great vision and poise with the puck.  He has the ability to make players around him better, has a great attitude and is highly motivated to prove himself in the EIHL.

“I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Barry will wear the #88 jersey for the Clan and will play against Coventry Blaze on Saturday.
