July 25, 2016

NEXT HOME GAME: The Braehead Clan face the Belfast Giants in an exciting start to the season on Sunday 28th August (6:00pm face-off). Tickets will be available from Monday 1st August via TICKETMASTER, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.

intu Braehead Clan are delighted to announce the signing of right winger Matt Beca, who joins the club for the 2016/17 season.

The 30-year-old arrives from a spell in Slovakia, where he helped HK Nitra win the play-offs and is set for his fourth season in Europe.

Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty revealed Beca was a target for the club last year and reckons his recent success is a good thing to bring to the team.

“Any time you’ve won anything in the past is good and if it’s more recent, then all the better,” said Finnerty.

“He’s played in good organisations through his career, apart from Italy, which was a tough spot, but he finished the season in Slovakia and won the play-offs.

“Matt’s got a taste for European hockey and I think he’ll fit in very well here as an offensive guy and someone we looked at last year and has been on our radar for some time.

“He can play on the right wing and on any line and we’re looking to put a good mix in. Matt will certainly fill that role on the right side and will produce at every level.”

Beca first arrived in Europe to play for Bad Nauheim in Germany where he played alongside Marcus Gotz before starting last season in Italy with Valpellice.

He moved to HK Nitra during the campaign and left Slovakia with a play-off medal before agreeing to come to Glasgow.

Beca is the club’s 16th signing and joins Jeff Ulmer, Trevor Hendrikx, Gary Russell, Scott Aarssen, Cody Carlson, Zach Sullivan, Matt Keith, Bari McKenzie, Matt Haywood, Alex Leavitt, Daniel Ahsberg, Corey Cowick, Scott Pitt, Craig Peacock and Callum Boyd on the roster.

As the recruitment heads into its final stages, Finnerty says he’s happy with how it’s gone and is hoping the paperwork side of it can go through without a hitch.

He added: “At this point, we’re pretty happy with where we’re at and we’re hoping the visa work gets done quickly and the guys can start arriving for camp.
