REPORT: Storm hit Clan for six on the road
Nolan LaPorte scored Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan’s only goal of the night as Malcolm Cameron’s men suffered a 6-1 loss on the road at Manchester Storm.
After the recent good run of form, Clan were second best in this game to an opponent against whom they’d beaten three times in the previous four meetings this season.
Clan went close in the early stages when a break down the left from Colton Yellow Horn found Nolan LaPorte arriving late, but Storm goalie Jason Bacashihua made a superb save.
The home side ended the first period with the lead thanks to Jared Vanwormer getting a nick on Adam Brady’s shot from the left to divert it past Shane Starrett.
Cam Critchlow went close with a turn and shot on the backhand in the second period, which was denied by the Clan stopper, but very much set the tone for what was to come.
A scramble in front of goal on 23 minutes saw Scott Simmonds poke it in at the third time of asking despite Starrett’s best efforts.
Within a couple of minutes, Storm made it 3-0 as they surged up the ice, with Clan’s netminder denying Ben Wilson, before Vanwormer tucked in the rebound.
Brady added a fourth as he did well to control a puck that looked like escaping from his possession before repositioning himself to execute a well-hit finish.
But it wasn’t done there as Joe Hazeldine smashed in a fifth, meeting Frankie Melton’s pass perfectly to send his shot flying into the Clan net, with Starrett’s night ending and Jordan McLaughlin on to take over.
Glasgow got a goal back four minutes into the third period when LaPorte needed two tries, but final got his shot into the net to finally get his team on the board.
Mathieu Roy went close a few minutes later as Clan looked to reduce the arrears, but Manchester held firm for the remainder of the period.
Brady’s second goal of the night was the icing on the cake for Storm in the final minutes to leave Glasgow with nothing to show for their efforts.
