REPORT: Not to be for Clan in Cardiff
Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan began a triple header weekend, but saw their hopes of an opening win on the road dashed at Cardiff Devils.
The beaten Challenge Cup finalists got the job done to beat Clan 4-2 in Ice Arena Wales as Malcolm Cameron’s men now turn their attention to the trip to Guildford Flames on Saturday.
It was a decent first period, but the Devils managed to turn things around as they quickly got over their dramatic loss on Wednesday.
Cardiff caused some problems in the early stages, but it was the visitors who opened the scoring as Mitch Jones took a pass from Colton Yellow Horn and sent his shot home from the blue line.
Shane Starrett was doing his bit at the other end, seeing off what looked a good opportunity from Jake Coughler as Cardiff looked to equalise.
Clan doubled their lead with one second left on the clock as Mathieu Roy, helped by Yellow Horn, found a way past Taran Kozun in the home net with a shot from the left side face off circle to round off a good first period.
It didn’t take Cardiff long to get on the board as they applied the pressure in the early stages of the second, with Josh Batch shooting through traffic and seeing the puck hit the net.
Cole Sanford hit the bar with a chance, but that was just before Brandon McNally and Rodney Southam went head to head with a fight to get the crowd on their feet.
The home side equalised soon after as Sanford set up Trevor Cox and the latter made sure with his chance.
They went ahead a couple of minutes later with the same two men combining, with Sanford this time the scorer, directing his finish past Starrett from the inside left.
Coughler made it 4-2 midway through the third period when he took a pass at his own blue line, drove forward then cut inside before drilling his shot past Starrett.
