The Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan leapfrogged the Fife Flyers into a playoff position after a huge 3-1 home victory over their Scottish rivals..

The Clan got off to a good start with Niklas Tikkinen and Gabriel Chabot threatening the Flyers’ net early on.

Stephen Dixon also came close to grabbing the opener as he received the puck out in front and first timed it on net, but Fife netminder Shane Owen kept it out with his pad.

Craig Peacock struck the pipe while on the powerplay after he redirected Drew McLean’s shot from close range to send Owen the wrong way.

But Clan’s early pressure paid off as Brad Kennedy picked up the puck after a mistake in the Clan zone from Fife before rifling it into the top shelf.

The home side then grabbed a second as Dyson Stevenson left Dillon Lawrence on his back with a nice move at the boards before Steven McParland finished off the move with a goal.

John Dunbar created another chance shortly after as he picked up possession in the neutral zone and drove at the net, but he couldn’t steer it on target.

Gary Haden made it 3-0 just 28 seconds into the second period as he tapped the puck in the centre from close range, set up with a McParland assist.

The Clan then produced four excellent minutes on the penalty kill with John Muse performing brilliantly in net to keep out the Flyers’ attacks.

Muse was forced into a difficult situation while on the penalty kill when he saved a backdoor shot from Chris Gerrie before swatting the rebound clear.

After the Clan killed off the penalty, Massy burst out the box and onto the puck which he took to the Fife net and nearly poked past Owen.

Fife thought they’d pulled one back shortly after as Zack Phillips fired the puck in from the left side while Muse was down in the crease.

After the goal was ruled out, Flyers coach Todd Dutiaume challenged the decision which resulted in a penalty for the visitors as it was unsuccessful.

Seth Bafaro then prevented another Clan goal as he got his stick in the way of Gabriel Chabot’s shot which sent it over the bar.

Fife had the last say in the game as Chris Gerrie snuck the puck in from behind the net, but it was a mere consolation as the Clan took all the points.
