The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, suffered a heart-breaking 4-3 overtime loss to the Belfast Giants, but claimed a point for their efforts.

It was a performance that in many ways summed up the season, with plenty of graft, but sadly not to the be in terms of the win,

Dyson Stevenson kicked the game off with a huge hit at the boards for the Clan which set the physical tone in the game.

Drew McLean opened the scoring in the game as he poked the puck in from the crease after receiving a perfect pass from John Dunbar on a breakaway.

Dunbar had a chance himself shortly after as he dinged the pipe on the one-on-one chance.

But Tyler Soy put the Giants back level after he rebounded Steven Owre’s shot, sending it past home goalie John Muse.

The Clan nearly put themselves back in front before the end of the period as Gabriel Chabot dangled through the Belfast zone before his shot hit the post.

In the second period, the Giants came close to taking the lead as Scott Conway’s deflected shot found its way through the Clan defence and came off the post.

Craig Peacock had a chance at the other end when he picked up a loose puck in the crease but couldn’t control it in time as he bundled into Giants goalie Peyton Jones.

Steven McParland restored the Clan’s lead late in the period as he made a sensational drive from the blue line before sending the puck into the net from the right circle.

Bradley Kennedy had a chance in the third period as he released a quick shot off the faceoff which was narrowly kept out by the crossbar.

Dunbar extended the hosts’ lead to two goals late on in the third as he picked up the puck on the right side from Craig Peacock’s pass before firing it into the net.

Lewis Hook responded instantly for the Giants as he sent the puck in from close range after a behind the net pass from Ben Lake.

Belfast equalised shortly after as Matt Foley fired the puck in from the blue line to send the game into overtime.

The Giants found the winner just 38 seconds into overtime as David Goodwin shot the puck in off Stevenson to end the game.
