The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, came agonisingly close to sealing their first win this season but suffered a shootout loss to the Nottingham Panthers.

It was the Clan who opened the scoring as Gary Haden picked up the loose puck after multiple rebounds in a goalmouth scramble and slotted it over the reach of Jack Berry.

Steven McParland followed up soon after as he received the puck on the left side while on the powerplay and charged at the goal before slapping into the net with four seconds left in the period to double the Clan’s lead.

The home side wasted no time getting the second period action underway as they instantly pressured Berry in the Panthers’ net with a barrage of shots.

Glasgow goalie John Muse was called into action on multiple occasions in the second period as he resiliently defended his net with big-time reflex stops including an impressive save with his stick on the line after a redirected shot trickled past his pads.

Panthers eventually found their way onto the scoreboard though as ex-Clan player Mike Hammond struck home a rebound over the reach of Muse with 30 seconds left in the period.

The Clan once again got straight onto the attacking foot at the start of the third period as Berry was forced into an acrobatic lunge across the goal to keep out a threatening Glasgow attack.

It wasn’t long before Nottingham had found their second and equalising goal as Craig Puffer squeezed the puck past Muse with a wraparound move early in the third.

The third period was filled with constant back-and-forth attacks from both sides as the Panthers threatened with a bar ringing wrister from Puffer while the Clan created dangerous chances through Peacock and Haden which were well kept out by Berry.

The game was stretched into overtime, where Muse once again showed off his impressive reflexes with a fantastic cross goal stretch to keep out Mike Hammond at the back pipe.

The game couldn’t be decided in regular time and had to go to a penalty shootout. This saw the Clan fall yet again to the cruellest way to lose a hockey game as the Panthers won the shootout with Adam Brady scoring the decisive one.
