The Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan began 2023 in the best possible way as to win a hugely important Scottish derby 4-1 on the road against the Dundee Stars.
Steven McParland had an early chance for the Clan when he picked up the puck on the breakaway, but Dundee goalie Anton Svensson’s blocker was quick to it.
Stephen Dixon got the travelling fans on their feet early on when he sent Romans Semjonovs to the ice after a huge hit at the board.
The Stars got off to a physical start in the game and dominated possession as a result, but it was the Clan who opened the scoring when Drew McLean unleashed a sweet shot into the roof of the net.

Glasgow’s netminder John Muse also impressed early on as well when he made a crucial stop at the back post to defend ther lead.
The visitors continued to show off their physical strength throughout the game with Mitch Jones and Dyson Stevenson throwing huge hits at the boards.
Stevenson doubled the Clan’s advantage in the second period after his shot found its way through the crowd in front of the Stars’ net for his first goal of the season.
Dundee halved the Clan’s lead with a nicely worked finish from Carter Folk after Ben Sokay wrapped the puck around the net.

Kevin Massy restored the two-goal lead with a perfectly placed snipe after weaving through the Stars’ defence.
Then he bagged a second goal for himself and a fourth for the team when he ripped the puck from the blue line while on the powerplay.
Jordan Cownie put himself in the spotlight as he started to throw some big hits in the final period of the game.
But the Clan held onto their 4-1 lead in the third period thanks to defiant goaltending from Muse and strong defensive work from Liam Stenton and Mitch Jones, completing a first win in their tenth attempt.
