Guillaume Gauthier’s hat-trick wasn’t enough for Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan as they fell short in a 4-3 overtime loss to Nottingham Panthers.

While the outcome was disappointing, it ensured Malcolm Cameron’s men ended the week with three points from six.

It was to be the perfect start for the home side as they dominated the first period, racing into a two-goal lead before the first interval.

The opener came just seven minutes in as Gauthier picked up the puck in the slot before dispatching past Carr with power, giving the Panthers goalie no chance.

With just over a minute remaining in the first, it was two. Despite a video review, the Canadian claimed his and the Clan’s second of the afternoon after pouncing on a rebound, after Yellow Horn was unsuccessful from close range.

Panthers hit back 50 seconds into the middle session and the Clan’s lead was reduced to just one as Matt Lane was on hand to tuck in from close range, giving the visitors hope of a comeback.

Minutes later, the Panthers were level on the powerplay as Shane Starrett could not adapt to Matthew Myers’ nicked effort on goal.

The hard work from the first was to be undone as the Clan fell behind for the first time in the match, conceding a third, with Myers again on hand to claim his second with five remaining.

Four minutes into the final period, Glasgow were back on level terms as Gauthier claimed his third of the night, tipping Tim Shoup’s effort into the net.

Despite heavy pressure, the Clan couldn’t find a winner as the game was sent to overtime, with Nolan LaPorte the closest as he saw his effort rattle off the bar.

Just over a minute into the four-on-four, the game was decided as Jeremy Welsh drove towards the home goal before flashing an effort into the bottom left corner, taking the game for the Panthers.
