REPORT: Cardiff Devils 6 Glasgow Clan 3

September 24, 2022

Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan travelled to the Welsh capital but fell short to the Cardiff Devils in a tough 6-3 contest.

Devils struck early on in the first period as netminder Zach Driscoll pulled off an impressive initial pad save, but the rebound was first timed into the net by Justin Crandall.

The Clan responded quickly as the equaliser was found in less than 30 seconds with a powerplay goal after Gary Haden got the finish on the back of a Mathieu Roy pass as the Clan levelled the score-line on a powerplay.

Devils pounced on their first powerplay of the game as Marcus Crawford slapped a shot from near the blue line which found its way past Driscoll.

Brodie Reid was then on the end of a bizarre, misplaced pass from Roy as the Devils’ forward was handed a one-on-one, slotting the puck high into the net to give Cardiff a two-goal lead as the second period drew to a close.

After the first intermission the Devils quickly set their tone for the period as they hit their fourth goal within the opening 30 seconds.

A miscommunication at the back led to a collision between LaPorte and Driscoll for the Clan which caused the netminder to lose sight of the puck leading to the fourth goal for the home side by Cole Sanford.

The Clan were down in a five-on-three was gained by the Devils when LaPorte and Dunbar headed to the box for two separate slashing incidents.

The home side used this opportunity to expand their lead to four goals as Reid and Martin broke away quickly with an interception and Martin claimed the fifth for Brodie Dupont’s side.

After this goal, coach Malcolm Cameron made the decision to substitute Driscoll for Ty Taylor in the Clan net.

Cardiff picked up their sixth goal soon after as Mark Richardson rushed out the penalty box, after serving two minutes for hooking, to instantly get on the puck.

He got his side on the attack, laying a pass to Jardine who got the assist for Jake Coughler’s goal right in front of the net to expand to a five-goal lead.

The Clan clawed a second goal back as Stephen Dixon returned to Cardiff to score against his former team, directing the puck around Bowns to cut the Devils lead.

A mass scramble behind the net lead to more penalties in the game at the halfway point in the third as Brad Kennedy and Ben Davies squared off before Sam Jardine intervened for the Devils. leading to both Kennedy and Jardine being ejected from the game.

There was still more in the tank for the Clan though as Jordan Cownie made an impressive drive up the right side, finding Craig Peacock who first timed the puck into the upper half of the net to seal a third for the visitors.
