REPORT: Cardiff Devils 5 Glasgow Clan 1

December 18, 2022

The Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, come back empty handed after a damaging 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Cardiff Devils.

Dyson Stevenson and Josh Brittain got the game off to a feisty start as they collided at the boards before dropping the gloves in the first minute.

The Devils found the opening goal early on through Joey Martin’s close-range rebound after Cole Sanford fired a shot on net.

Gary Haden had a chance to equalise shortly after as he first timed the puck on net from close, but Taran Kazun’s pad kept the Devils in front.

Josh Waller doubled the Devils’ advantage as he rebounded his own shot to palm the puck down and tap it in past Ty Taylor.

The Devils continued to press the Clan goal as Cole Sanford struck the crossbar with a wrist shot from the right-side circle.

In the second period, Cardiff took a three-goal lead through a Brittain as he redirected Sanford’s shot through Taylor’s pads.

The Clan struck one back before the end of the period as Stevenson’s shot snuck through the Devils’ defence before Chabot sent it past Kazun.

Justin Crandall extended Cardiff’s lead back to three in the third period as he redirected the puck in front of the crease to send it over Taylor.

Brodie Reid scored a fifth for the hosts when he picked up the puck in the crease after Ryan Penny’s shot before firing it past Taylor.

The Devils thought they’d grabbed a sixth goal on the delayed penalty play, but the goal was waved off after a review showed that Kevin Massy had stopped the puck on the line.

Cardiff saw the game out to claim the victory to send Clan back to Scotland with nothing to show for their efforts.
