Matt Haywood and Alex Leavitt both hit hat-tricks to clinch victory as Braehead Clan come from behind to take victory from Edinburgh Capitals.

Leavitt was first on the scoresheet when Corey Cowick managed to play him in as he fell to block a pass, leaving the Clan forward through on goal to despatch a shot past Caps goalie Jordan Marr.

The visitors were back on level terms just 31 seconds later as Pavel Vorobyev set up Sean Beattie in front of the crease, who had time to look up and finish his shot.

Marr was beaten again at the other end as Clan moved 2-1 ahead, as Kyle Wharton set up Cowick on the inside left and he smashed a shot that beat Caps’ netminder at his near post.

Leavitt picked up his second at the end of the opening period, firing an effort into the roof of the net at an acute angle.

The game turned in the space of one minute 44 seconds in the second period as the Caps turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead.

Ian Schultz teed up Karel Hromas at the near post, who buried his chance past Clan goalie Michal Zajkowski to give them a route back.

Then Michal Dobron took the puck around the goal to set up Matt Tipoff, who seemed to have an easy finish to equalise.

Then Hromas’ second was almost identical to his first when again Schultz played provider to tap home and the visitors found themselves in front.

Clan hit back just over a minute of the third as Stefan Della Rovere sent a wrist shot over Marr’s shoulder to tie the game at four.

Then two from Haywood saw the balance tip in Braehead’s favour as renewed confident began to flow through the team.

Haywood completed his hat-trick, tipping in a Daniel Åhsberg shot then Leavitt confirmed his treble with a shot from centre that was past Marr before he knew it.

A Garrett Milan goal on the powerplay brought them a late consolation, but the points stayed at home as Clan made it two wins in a row.
