SIGNING: Tóth added to Clan defensive core

June 15, 2022

Glasgow Clan sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West are delighted to announce the signing of Hungarian defenceman Gergely Tóth.

The 24-year-old international is making a move to the UK to join up with Malcolm Cameron’s team for the new campaign.

And after doing his due diligence, he was sold on what the Clan had to offer.

“I can’t wait to arrive in Scotland and I hope I can fit easily into the team where we can have some success together,” he said.

“My agent recommended this opportunity and when I spoke with Malcolm, there was no question of me wanting to be part of the team.

“When looking into the Clan, I saw they have the best fans in the league and the arena looks nice and when I spoke to people who played in the UK, they recommended Glasgow.

“As a defenceman, the most important thing for me is to make good decisions and be unpredictable to your opponent. The UK will be a big challenge for me and I can’t wait to start.”

Tóth has played over 20 times for his country and is a three-time Hungarian champion, all occurring between 2018 and 2021, winning it twice with Ferencvaros and once with MAC Budapest.

He spent last season with MAC Budapest where he made 42 appearances, scoring 12 and making 20 assists for 32 points.

And Clan’s head coach Malcolm Cameron was quick to make his move after first seeing him a couple of seasons ago.

“I got a chance to see Gergely when I was in Romania in the 2019/20 season and he caught my eye with his size and his ability and was something of a jack-of-all-trades,” Cameron said.

“He’s improved ever since and had a monster year with MAC Budapest last year and the Hungarian national coach, Sean Simpson, recommended him highly to me.

“I expect there will be a bit of a learning curve due to the style of our game, where there’s more defence in our league, but he’s got a good stick and can kill penalties.

“You need guys who can skate in defence, who can go one-on-one and we think he’ll be a diamond in the rough for us.”

Tóth will wear the #17 jersey for the Clan in 2022/23 and joins John Dunbar, Craig Peacock, Jordan Cownie, Stephen Dixon and Liam Stenton on the roster for next season.
